Winning: gaining, resulting in, or relating to victory in a contest or competition.
When we think of winning, sports automatically come to mind for most people. We live in a society where winning is the most important goal. If we are winning, then that often means that others are losing. Think about it. We win in all sporting activities. We win in school with our tests and projects. We win at work through our promotions and initiatives. We win in our civic organizations where we raise the most money and we receive acknowledgement for it. We win at church where we have sung the best or prayed the most or preached the longest. In any instance, the mindset of winning is to be the be the best of the best at all costs. It is a way to boost our pride and egos according to the world’s standards.
Let’s look at winning from a different perspective. What if winning equates to serving and ensuring that there is a win-win for all parties involved? What if winning was to be the best version of yourself so that others may be encouraged and gain life from you? What if winning was to ensure that your relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit was solid and they provided you with wisdom and direction on what to say, what to do, discernment in challenging situations and having spiritual experiences? What if winning was challenging yourself to know God better, know yourself better and your identity in Him, and to give life to others through encouragement and servanthood? If this was the case, think of the major impact you could have on society or the world!
As a leader you should ensure that all those around you are better off because they have been in your presence and experienced your insights, wisdom, attitude, and competence. That’s when others win because you have raised their level of consciousness on how a high-capacity leader leads well.
I cherish the scripture in Romans 12:1-3 where it states “I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. 2 Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than one ought to think, but to think soberly, each according to the measure of faith that God has apportioned.
This scripture focuses on how we should be presenting ourselves and how we should think about ourselves in mind and body.
I am challenging you to reconsider how you think about winning, who wins, what’s most important in winning, and who gets glory when you win. Now to be honest with you, I like a fierce game of tennis and I will leave everything on the court to win, but at the end of the day, I want to keep my relationship intact with my opponent after the match by exemplifying the fruit of the Spirit!
March on my brother with a WINNING Spirit today!
