Pursuit: an activity that one engages in as a vocation, profession, or a vocation: occupation. your attempts at achieving it
We are all in pursuit of something all our lives. There is a restlessness that stirs within our souls as we continue to search for those things that fill us and give us life. There are so many people that spend a lifetime looking and surrounding themselves with stuff and things that are temporary and only satisfies for a short period of time. Once that high is over, then they look for more stuff and things to fill what they consider to be the gap in their lives. Examples of these are cars, houses, promotions, prestige, fame, money, notoriety, and the like filling us with empty and vain promises every time and then we wonder why we are not happy. This is like being a mouse in a cage on a hamster wheel where the mouse works and works and ends up going nowhere and not fulfilled.
Let’s get off the hamster wheel and truly pursuit those things that bring us life and fulfill our lives. As I have meditated, I would recommend the pursuit of these five areas in your life that will bring you joy despite your circumstances if they are pursued with a pure heart, sober mind and with intentionality. Note that I wrote joy instead of happiness. Happiness is external and temporary while joy is internal and permanent. So back to these five areas as I believe they will guide your leadership, teach you lessons, and leave a legacy for you to pass on for generations to come.
Here's the number one pursuit. Pursuit God! As you pursuit Him, you will experience the one who saves and will be Lord over your life, Jesus Christ. As you accept this true reality, then the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, will dwell within and around you to lead and guide your decisions in life. Your capacity for wisdom will grow by leaps and bounds and your decisions will be mature as they will be based on truth and not feelings. Be intentional with pursuing His Word, Ways, and Wisdom. John 15 supports this pursuit.
Next, the true statement of “He who finds a Wife, finds a good thing”. There should be a pursuit of your wife! This will be the most intimate relationship you will have on earth to share your dreams, successes, challenges and much more. Even if you are married, continue to pursuit your wife! This covenant relationship should represent Christ and the Church and be an example for others to follow.
A man’s pursuit of courage strengthens his being from the inside out. Courage is the ability to face challenging or difficult circumstances without fear. Taking one step at a time as you are being led by the Holy Spirit and supported by your wife, you can be victorious in all situations. 2nd Timothy 1:7.
Excellence is our next pursuit. Excellence is developed in the routine and practice of daily living with intentionality. It is the thought of ensuring that others get the best of you through your skills, talents, and abilities. It sets the standard with our mind-set and our heart-set.
Lastly, Curiosity which is a strong desire to know or learn something. Vow to yourself to be adventurous and a lifelong learner through Christ so that you can launch in life. Joshua 1:6-9
