Deep: of penetrating intellect: WISE, a deep thinker, intensely engrossed or immersed
A mature walnut tree can have a root system as deep as nine feet. What we see above the ground can be spectacular especially when it is adorned against the landscape of a magnificent sunrise or sunset. What gives those trees life and makes them beneficial for all to enjoy are how healthy and strong the roots are. Those benefits include shelter for wildlife, shade on hot summer days, a source of nourishing nutrients from its walnuts, just to name a few.
How strong, healthy, and deep are your roots? What I have discovered after evaluating true leaders is that those who bring value and sustenance to the lives of others have strong, healthy, deep roots. They understand more clearly their purpose and have strengthened their values, mission, identity, and craft in life. They are even more purposeful in developing ways to give back to others through mentoring, accountability, insights, modeling, and influence.
When we examine trees, if they are receiving healthy nutrients such as soil, water, sun and placed in a growing environment, they continue to flourish, and their root system gets stronger and deeper over time. With many trees, their root systems are able to penetrate through rocks, concrete and other impeding things. This should pique your curiosity in how strong, healthy, and deep your root system is. To take a self-evaluation on your leadership and life, here are a few questions you should meditate on.
Have you placed yourself in an environment that champions your growth and development?
Have you taken the steps to ensure that your leadership and life root system continues to grow deep over time?
Have you developed stamina and strength to overcome impediments and obstacles that you face?
Have you solidified your identity and purpose in leadership and life?
The crafts, gifts, and talents that you have been given make up your tree and it is ultimately purposed to bless and benefit others. What’s underneath the surface of it all (your root system) will determine your impact and effectiveness.
Here are recommendations to ensure the growth of your root system;
Consistently find leaders who can mentor you in your craft. They should be leaders of good rapport and a few years ahead of you.
Challenge yourself to obtain additional education or certification that will grow your credibility roots.
Connect yourself with those who share your passion positively.
Enroll in a learning program to become more effective in communication skills on all levels.
Never ever stop learning and growing.
Most of all, hide the word in your heart by reading, studying, and meditating daily so you can apply wisdom in all of your situations.
Going deep will result in your rise to new heights while spreading your crafts, gifts, and talents to others.
Reading these two scriptures will inspire and encourage you to go deep daily. Psalms 1: 1-3 and Joshua 1:7-9.
